How Does Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) Work?
Intense pulsed light treatment (IPL) has a wide variety of uses. This non-ablative treatment can:
- stimulate collagen
- lighten or remove brown spots/hyperpigmentation
- decrease redness
- reduce acne inflammation
There is minimal downtime following the treatment. IPL treatment is no safe for those with darker skin tones as it may cause hypopigmentation (lighten the skin).
Important Pre-Treatment Instructions for Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL)
- It is important the treatment area is as clean as possible. Please come to your appointment free of any makeup, creams, perfumes, and lotions
- Male clients should shave the day of their appointment if treating the face. The pigment in beard hair could increase treatment discomfort
- No tanning! This includes active sun exposure, tanning beds, self-tanner, spray tanning, and tinted moisturizers. You must avoid these for AT LEAST one month prior to treatment
- Discontinue exfoliating creams 1 week prior to treatment
- If you have a history of herpes outbreaks in the treatment area, please make our provider aware for appropriate pre-treatment
